CS2 Season Four Patch Breakdown: Anubis Returns, New Skins, Weapon Buffs and Movement Overhaul

Valve kicked off Premier Season Four with one of the most substantial Counter-Strike 2 updates in recent memory. Clocking in at roughly eight gigabytes, the January patch delivers sweeping changes across maps, weapons, movement mechanics, and cosmetics. Here's everything you need to know about what changed and why it matters.

Premier Season Four Is Live

The ranked grind resets with Season Four of Premier Mode now officially active. Base ranks for all maps have been recalibrated, meaning your previous standings may look different until the system settles. Valve has temporarily hidden old rank data while the transition takes place, so don't panic if your numbers seem off — they'll stabilize as you play more matches on the new build.

Anubis Makes Its Comeback

The biggest headline from this patch is the return of Anubis to the active map pool, replacing Train. But this isn't the same Anubis players remember — Valve has delivered a comprehensive rework that addresses many of the layout complaints from its first rotation.

Anubis map changes in CS2 Season Four

Key changes to Anubis include:

  • The bridge drop has been relocated near Mid Doors, creating new rotational dynamics
  • Mid doors orientation has been reversed, fundamentally altering how teams contest middle control
  • A new hole connects E-box to Back of B, offering additional flanking routes
  • Bombsite A crates have been repositioned up the steps onto Walkway
  • New scaffolding has been added to a pillar on Bombsite A, providing fresh angles for defenders

These layout adjustments should create more balanced gameplay between sides and give teams fresh strategic options to explore. For competitive players, the Anubis rework will likely become a major talking point heading into IEM Krakow 2026.

Fresh Skin Collections: Achroma and Harlequin

Two brand-new weapon finish collections have been added to the Weekly Care Package drop pool, each with a distinct visual identity.

Harlequin Collection embraces bold, vibrant colors — think reds, purples, and yellows arranged in tactical camouflage patterns with a festive twist. It's a collection that will stand out in any inventory.

Achroma Collection goes in the opposite direction with a striking monochrome palette. The standout piece is undoubtedly the AK-47 Achroma, featuring dramatic black-and-white lightning bolt patterns that have already caught the community's attention.

Notably, four older collections have been removed from the Weekly Care Package rotation: Safehouse, Dust 2, 2018 Nuke Collection, and the 2018 Inferno Collection. If you were hoping to score drops from those sets, you'll now need to look to the trading market.

AK-47 Aphrodite: The New Armory Pass Exclusive

The Armory Pass receives a new limited-edition reward in the form of the AK-47 | Aphrodite. This skin features unique visual properties that change noticeably depending on the seed pattern and float value, making each copy feel somewhat distinct from the next.

Given the limited-edition nature of Armory Pass items, the Aphrodite is likely to hold considerable value on the secondary market once the pass cycle concludes.

SMG Buffs: MP7, MP5-SD, and Bizon Get Some Love

Valve has targeted the SMG category with meaningful buffs designed to make these weapons more viable in competitive play:

  • MP7: Price reduced by $100, damage increased, damage fall-off reduced
  • MP5-SD: Same treatment — $100 cheaper, more damage, less fall-off
  • PP-19 Bizon: Price reduced by $100 (no damage changes)

These adjustments make force-buy and eco rounds more interesting, giving players additional options beyond the traditional pistol-only or SMG-limited approaches. Whether the MP7 can carve out a real niche against the MAC-10 and MP9 remains to be seen, but the numbers are certainly more competitive now.

Movement Overhaul: Jumping and Landing Reworked

Perhaps the most technically significant change in this update is the complete rework of jumping and landing mechanics. The key changes are:

  • Jumping and landing no longer affect character stamina, removing a long-standing mechanic that limited consecutive jumps
  • Landing time is now calculated using subtick precision, resulting in smoother and more consistent movement
  • Bunnyhop mechanics have been adjusted to reflect these new physics
  • A new sv_legacy_jump command has been added for private servers, allowing communities to revert to the old system if preferred

This is a fundamental shift in how movement works in CS2, and it will take time for the community to fully understand its implications for skill jumps, peeks, and overall game feel.

What About a New Operation?

Despite the size of this update, there is no new operation included. The eight-gigabyte download is primarily driven by map changes, new skin assets, and the movement system overhaul. While fans continue to hope for a full-blown operation with missions and exclusive rewards, Valve appears to be focusing on core gameplay improvements and cosmetic drops through the existing Armory Pass and Care Package systems for now.

Season Four shapes up to be one of the most impactful competitive seasons yet. Between the Anubis rework changing up the map pool, SMG buffs altering the economy meta, and a completely new movement system, teams and players at every level will have plenty to adapt to in the weeks ahead.
